The “Terra Kisi” brand was founded in 2019 and today produces approximately 400,000 bottles of wine per year, combining scale with the philosophy of boutique winemaking.
The history of the Georgian wine brand “Terra Kisi” is inextricably linked to the name of its founder, professional sommelier and winemaker David Machavariani. It is a modern, rapidly growing winery that has successfully combined its founder’s classical French education with the deep, centuries-old traditions of Kakheti. Founder and chief winemaker David Machavariani is a specialist with more than twenty-five years of experience and a degree from the French university Le diplôme national d’œnologue (DNO).
Grapes are sourced for the winery both from its own vineyards and from partner farmers. Quality is monitored not only throughout the entire year but also from year to year to ensure that only the best bunches are used in production.
The winery is equipped with 50 traditional Georgian qvevri with a total capacity of 80 metric tons. The production process also utilises Italian temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with a total capacity of 400 metric tons. There are 150 French oak barrels with a total capacity of 40 metric tons for wines and 40 barrels with a total capacity of 9 metric tons for spirits. Just recently, the factory added three new 21-metric-ton tanks. The production facility has the capacity for further expansion. However, Terra Kisi are not eager to position themselves as a large-scale manufacturer. With focus mainly on quality and identity.
Working with Qvevri and Oak: This combination brings out the depth and complexity of flavor in the wines. Both traditional clay qvevri, buried in the ground, and classic French oak barrels are actively used for fermentation and aging.
The brand has become known for its bold experiments, for example, blending the French Chardonnay variety with the Georgian Kisi to create a unique amber (orange) wine using the Kakhetian method.
Today, the “Terra Kisi” collection includes more than 35 varieties of white, red, and orange wines. Every year, the winery creates new wines and conducts experiments using different grape varieties and blends. As a result, the lineup is constantly evolving and revealing new facets of Georgia’s indigenous and classic French grape varieties.
A number of premium lines undergo a combined aging process. More than 250,000 bottles are aged in spacious cellars at the ideal temperature, waiting for their moment. “Terra Kisi” is a fresh take on Georgian traditions, created by a professional sommelier trained in France.
“Terra Kisi” is more than just wine. It strikes a balance between authenticity, elegance, and guaranteed commercial success for our partners.
“Terra Kisi” is not just a winery, but a philosophy that combines tradition and innovation. Every bottle tells a story that you’ll want to rediscover.
